Inspection
Keeping track of readiness of the many hundreds or thousands of hydrants can be difficult task. More often than not, the worthiness of hydrants aren't determined until they are needed for fire suppression and that is typically too late.
DHES, LLC performs regular visual inspections to assure these publlic safety necessities are ready to be used whenever needed.
Cleaning & Flushing
With time, sediments, sludge, and other impurities can collect on the bottom of the service water main. To prevent damage to the internal workings and valves attached to the system, it is necessary to periodically flush these impurities, buildups and sludge like substances from the water mains.
This is even more critical on dead end water mains that do not loop back into the main water network. These sediments can work their way into the residential water services and clog water lines.
These sediments can also clog or decrease residential water pressure. Regular flushing can assist in removing these impurities from the water system service lines.

Painting
Fire hydrants are outside and exposed to the elements 365 days a year in both the heat as well as extreme cold. In some instances, these hydrants are not used for long periods of time and often wear and rust without being noticed. A fresh coat of paint will make these hydrants more noticeable and easier to locate by fire engines responding on fire incidents. At the owners choice, we can increase the hydrant visibility by adding reflective striping to the bonnet of the hydrant.
DHES will scrape, prep and paint hydrants with an epoxy paint that should give many years of visibility and service. This is also a perfect time for the painters to inspect the hydrant to make sure it is working properly.

Maintenance
DHES does not do Fire Hydrant Repair work, however, we advise local Water Works managers of any damage or leaks observed while our painters are out on their painting routes.
DHES can also install, repair, or replace keeper chains on caps so that caps do not get lost at night or fall in deep snow and get lost in the winter months.
